If you want to experience a real Sevillian traditional party, you cannot miss the Feria de Abril in Sevilla. Every year in April the most important party of Sevilla is held. Many years ago it started as a cattle market but now it is one big happy folk festival. A week full of flamenco dresses, horses, dancing, singing and eating.

The party always takes place two or three weeks after the Semana Santa. The Feria starts Saturday night. Everybody will eat gambas and fried fish together. It is called Noche de Pescaíto. At 00:00 all the lights go on and the Feria is opened. Next week on Saturday the Feria will be closed at 00:00 with firework. The terrain called Los Remedios is the place where the festival will be held. The terrain is transformed into a colourful light town. Everywhere you see 'casetas' that are used as party tents to dance and eat together. However, for many casetas you need a personal invitation. Most of them are from families or companies. Don't worry, there are also public casetas that you can enter without having an invitation. In the casetas you will hear Sevillana music or also Reggaeton. The vibe is really amazing, everybody dances and sing and is having fun.

Traditional uses
In the Feria all the women are dressed in traje de gitana. It looks like the traditional flamenco dresses. Really everybody from young to old is wearing these dresses. The mens are dressed in a suit. And also for the men, young to old is wearing these suits. Everybody on the fair is dressed very fancy and classy. So, if you visit the the Feria make sure that you are dressed like this. The Sevillian people find it very important that you are dressed well. You can buy a flower for in your hair and the women can wear a dress. The mens can wear a suit or a fancy blouse. In the Feria you also have some traditional drinks that you can try. Fino-Sherry from Jerez and the Manzanilla from Sanlúcar are very popular. They also have a special drink called 'rebujito', it is a mix of ice cubes with 7-up and a bottle of Sherry. It is a refreshing drink for a day full of dancing.

Activities
Take in mind it is the most important party of Sevilla so it is very busy and crowded. What I really liked is that you see even in the center of the city everybody dressed up. Everywhere in the city
you see horse carriages full with the women in the dresses and mens in the suits. On the plaza de España they go to make photos with their beautiful outfits. The whole city is in Feria atmosphere. On the Feria terrain you can dance, eat and sing all day in the public casetas. If you don't like to dance, no worry. You can also just walk around and see how the Sevillians are celebrating the party. All the time on the terrain you see the horse riders in their costumes and Cordobese hats. The Sevillian people are dressed up so beautiful that it already impressing to see them walking around. At the back of the Feria terrain is a big fair with attractions with for example a big ferris wheel. You can also enjoy your time there. In general, I really liked the Feria de Abril and it is really worth to experience it.

What you need to know
With Feria de Abril the city is really full, also in the hotels. So if you want to visit the Feria, be on time with booking your accommodation. I stayed in a hostel where they organized trip to the Feria with a big group. That made it fun because you will celebrate the Feria with a lot of people. Also, it is nice because they knew which casetas were public. If you download the app (Feria de Abril, free) you can find a map with all the casetas. In the app you can find which casetas are for public.
